LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Area residents are getting inspired by art in downtown La Crosse.

This weekend marked the first annual Art-Spire in La Crosse, an event celebrating visual art, music, dance and theatre outside the Pump House.

Friday night, organizers unveiled the city's newest public artwork on the side of the building. Saturday, the festivities continued with an art show and sale, along with more than 100 other activities across the downtown area.

Organizers say the event isn't just for artists - the goal is to bring everyone together to enjoy what the city has to offer.

"We set this out to be not exclusive to just artists, but rather to be for the entire city of La Crosse,” said Don Smith, chair of the La Crosse City Arts Board. “Like the mural, it describes all of us. It's a celebration of the arts for the city, not specific to any group."

In all, about 5,000 people came out to get inspired by La Crosse art this weekend.
