Firefighters work to stay cool during heat wave
A heat advisory is in effect until Friday evening for most of the News 8 viewing area. StormTeam 8 Meteorologist Michelle Poedel says heat indices of 95-degrees to 105-degrees are possible.
That's not stopping La Crosse firefighters from their scheduled training at a vacant house on the 900 block of State Street on Tuesday.
"It's hard work in the heat, but it's more of having a window of opportunity to have fire training inside of a building and we took advantage of the opportunity because the training is very valuable," La Crosse Fire Department Division Chief of Training Greg Temp said.
He says the gear that protects them from fire is like wearing a snowsuit on hot days. Firefighters are making sure they drink enough water and take enough breaks throughout the day.
