LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Our area may be in for a double whammy of mosquito hatches.

La Crosse County's Vector Control Manager says we saw our first batch as the water level went up. Now that it's on its way down, and temperatures are on the way up, conditions are right for another wave of mosquitoes.

"We have an area that's not flooded for years, and all of a sudden it is flooded because of conditions, and you get eggs hatching that have been there for years and you get tremendous hatches coming off," said La Crosse County Vector Control Specialist Dave Geske.

One of the areas Geske pointed out is the islands throughout the Mississippi River.

He wants to remind everyone to make sure to get rid of any standing water in open containers, such as tires and bird baths, to help curb the potential hatch.
