LA CROSSE, Wis. -

A challenge to shop local kicked off in downtown La Crosse Friday. The annual event is called the Downtown Walkaround.

It's a push from Downtown Mainstreet to get people to visit 50 businesses in the area. At the same time, it's also a health challenge from Mayo Clinic Health System to get people walking more.

The chair of the challenge says it's incredible what you find when you explore. "It's fun to go into all the downtown stores and realize there are so many, many, many goods available downtown and unique shops, fun shops that I didn't know existed," said the Downtown Walkaround Chairperson Pat Chilsen.

The Walkaround wraps up June 7th.
