Dogs cool off at the Diggity Dog Dip
The Onalaska Public Pool may be closed for the season for people, but not for our furry friends.
Hundreds of dogs enjoyed a day of swimming at the Onalaska Aquatic Center as part of the Diggity Dog Dip.
Organizers said about 900 people and 400 dogs turned out for the event.
It's a fundraiser for the La Crescent Animal Rescue and the Onalaska Park and Rec Department, but organizers said more importantly, it's a chance for the dogs to socialize and enjoy a fun activity.
"The event has created awareness on the part of humans that, you know what animals do have more emotions. You see the excitement, the fun and the enjoyment factor at this kind of event," said owner of Diggity Dog Day Care and event organizer Pat Kucera.
Kucera said they expect to raise about $4,000 from the event but they won't have an official total until next week.
