UPDATE: Suspects in Tomah high speed chase arrested

Two suspects identified following high-speed chase

UPDATE: The Tomah Police Department captured 17-year-old Yoel Cruz and 18-year-old Malic Smith last evening, the suspects involved in a high-speed chase Sunday morning. A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested immediately following the pursuit.

They all are from the Chicago, IL area. A firearm was located in the vehicle and was determined stolen.

The City of Tomah Police Department is forwarding the following charges to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office for Cruz and Smith:


- Criminal Damage To Property
- Disorderly Conduct
- Criminal Trespass to Dwelling
- Possession of Marijuana
- Resisting/Obstructing an Officer
- Fraud to Hotel


All three subjects are being held at the Monroe County Jail.

PREVIOUS UPDATE:

The two suspects were apprehended last night after being spotted at the Econo Lodge in Tomah.

The suspects attempted to leave when officers arrived.

One person was tackled to the ground while the other barricaded himself in an unoccupied apartment.

Law Enforcement surrounded the apartment.

The suspect then contacted 9-1-1,saying they wanted to surrender.

The second suspect was then taken into custody.


PREVIOUS STORY:

The Tomah Police Department needs your help identifying two individuals involved in an early-morning high-speed chase.

Just before 8 a.m., state troopers from Eau Claire attempted to stop a vehicle near Black River Falls that they said was speeding at 113 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The driver of the vehicle drove into a rest area as if intending to stop but then accelerated and continued eastbound on Interstate 94.

State troopers followed the vehicle until stopping it in Tomah near the entrance to a McDonalds restaurant by using tire deflation devices.

Three males ran from the vehicle into a nearby hotel; however one of them was arrested by Tomah police.

The other two have yet to be located by authorities.

Police describe the first suspect as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood, and is possibly in jeans and white tennis shoes. He is also described as having a short haircut.

The second suspect is black male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. He is also described as having a short haircut.
