BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) - The trial for a Jackson County woman charged in a heroin-related death ended Friday with a hung jury and the judge declaring a mistrial.

Harley Est, 25, of Merrillan was on trial for the death of Vernell Pugh.

She was charged with first degree reckless homicide after police say she gave a fatal dose of heroin to Pugh in February of 2015.

According to the criminal complaint, several witnesses told authorities Est admitted she was the one who injected the heroin into Pugh on the night he died.


{C}She faced up to 40 years in prison, but after about 13 hours of deliberation, a jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision.
