One person was injured in a crash on Highway 16 north of Gillette Street in La Crosse Wednesday afternoon.
The La Crosse Fire Department Division Chief Jeff Murphy says a woman in a black SUV, which turned on its side, was injured. Another car went down an embankment. The person in that vehicle was not injured.
The woman in the SUV had to be extricated. "We had to use airbags, high pressure airbags to lift the vehicle off the patient and the whole time making sure the vehicle doesn't come back down in case of equipment failure," said Div. Chief Murphy.
Tri-State ambulance transported the woman to Gundersen with life-threatening injuries. There's no word on what caused the crash.
Traffic was re-routed for about an hour before the highway was reopened.
The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted the La Crosse Police and Fire Departments with this incident.
A second crash, not far from that same area involving two motorcycles, left one person with potentially life-threatening injuries.
