In just 26 days, the federal marketplace for subsidized health insurance opens for business.
Congressman Ron Kind is touring the area helping people understand what it means. He hosted an informational session at UW-La Crosse Thursday night in an effort to explain what people need to know about the Affordable Care Act reforms.
His goal is to layout the timeline for the changes and make sure everyone knows everything they need to. "If you're a person receiving employer sponsored health care, you don't have to do anything, if you're a senior in medicare, you don't have to do anything, if you're a veteran getting veteran's health care benefits, you don't have to do anything. It's the 400,000 Wisconsinites who currently lack coverage that can go into these exchanges," said Congressman Kind.
Gundersen Health System estimates 30,000 people in our area will need to get coverage.
Prices for the insurance plans will not be available until after the marketplace opens on October first.
