LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

The City of La Crosse is cracking down on property owners who don't shovel their sidewalks this winter.

La Crosse has an ordinance that requires sidewalks to be clear a day after the snow stops falling. If it's not done, the city will come and clear it and charge the property owner for the work.

The city left door hangers last week at homes where sidewalks needed to be shoveled. On Thursday morning, crews started removing snow and charging property owners. It costs $2.50 per lineal foot.
