Riverside park will be filled with chili this weekend.
Preparations are underway for the 22nd annual State Bank Financial Chili Cook-Off. The event is taking place at Riverside Park for the first time.
23 organizations are cooking up their best chili recipes for people to try. There will be a chili competition, a silent auction, and a professional chef coming in this year to whip up a delicious batch of chili.
The event is a fundraiser for D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T. and the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. "For D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. this is their primary fundraiser, so we are their primary source of funds to keep the programs going. This is a major program for the La Crosse Public Education Foundation, they're working on a compassion project right now that is just getting off the ground and this is a really big deal for them," said Jodi Ehrenberger from State Bank.
Chili tasting begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Park. Make sure you stop at the News 8 booth and say hi to News 8's Martha Koloski, Cory Malles and Michelle Poedel.
Admission is $5. Kids under 12 get in free.
Starting at 1:30 p.m., there is a chili pepper eating contest and they best chili recipes will be announced.
