It's the end of the road for a long-standing tradition in La Crosse.

Runners took part in the final leg of the 5K, 10K Chileda Classic at Riverside Park in La Crosse on Saturday.

The run has been a fundraiser for Chileda for the past 32 years.

Organizers say they're ending the event because not as many people are participating and pledges are not as high as they used to be.

Kids had their last chance to race on Saturday as well.

Instead of medals, they received ice cream at the finish line.

Organizers said the race is a wonderful way to connect with the community and they will truly miss not hosting it again next year.

"It's bittersweet. We've had such a wonderful day and we remember that we love to do this and again it's the cost involved and the effort involved and making sure that balances out with the fundraising aspect. So because of that, we really had to take a step back and look at what to do next year," said Chileda CEO and President Ruth Wiseman.

Wiseman said she's not sure what they will do to try to replace the Classic, but she did have some people approach him with some ideas on Saturday, so she's hopeful for what they come up with next.
