About a million CenturyLink customers lost Internet service for much of Tuesday morning, including people in the La Crosse area.
CenturyLink says a problem with their routers, their devices that transfer service, caused what they called a major outage.
It started at about 9:30 Tuesday morning and affected customers in 17 states.
La Crosse Public Library Director Kelly Krieg-Sigman said the Internet was down at all three branches due to CenturyLink's outage. Services were restored around 12 p.m. Some customers reported gettting service back earlier.
