LA CROSSE, Wis. -

About a million CenturyLink customers lost Internet service for much of Tuesday morning, including people in the La Crosse area.

CenturyLink says a problem with their routers, their devices that transfer service, caused what they called a major outage.

It started at about 9:30 Tuesday morning and affected customers in 17 states.

La Crosse Public Library Director Kelly Krieg-Sigman said the Internet was down at all three branches due to CenturyLink's outage. Services were restored around 12 p.m. Some customers reported gettting service back earlier.

CenturyLink says if you're experiencing issues, you should try turning your modem off and then back on. If your problems continue, you're asked to contact CenturyLink at TalkToUs@CenturyLink.com.
