LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

An annual picnic reunited cancer survivors with the people that helped them along the way.

More than 100 patients and their families took part in the 23rd annual Celebrate Life Picnic on Tuesday night.

The community-wide picnic at the La Crosse Center gave survivors a chance to meet other survivors and the doctors that treated them.

Oftentimes cancer doesn't just affect the patient, it affects their families as well and many times it’s the comfort of knowing their not alone which keeps them moving forward.

“People might not know that other people have had the same journey and had to support other families member through their cancer care and again tell their story,” said Gundersen Health System Radiation Therapist Jared Kast.

The picnic was put on by both Gundersen Health system and Mayo clinic Heath System Franciscan Healthcare.
