ONALASKA, Wis. -

A busy intersection in Onalaska is getting a much needed facelift to help drivers cut down on their daily commute.

Members of the Onalaska Board of Public Works approved a new design for the intersection at Theater Road and Midwest Drive. That's near Goodwill and the Mayo Clinic Health System Onalaska.

The new design will have traffic lights, a median, and turn lanes to shorten the long wait times for drivers.

The problem intersection piles up fast with drivers trying to turn left on to Theater Road from Midwest drive.  "It should be a good project for the community. It's a, we do get a lot of request for this intersection with the left turns and the back up, especially at Christmas time and with the amount of traffic in the area so I think the public sees it as a needed project," said Onalaska City Engineer Jarrod Holter.

The city hopes to start construction by this fall. The project is estimated to cost  $250,000.
