The number of people riding the bus in La Crosse is up, despite a national report saying ridership is down in some of the state's metro areas.
The American Public Transportation Association said the number of people riding public buses is holding fairly steady nationwide. But in Wisconsin cities like Milwaukee and Racine, ridership is down.
That's not the case in La Crosse.
The interim transit manager says 3% more people are hopping on the bus in the city. "We look at ridership, riders per mile, I think a lot of the other cities have had to cut service and that's why ridership has declined," said Keith Lee.
More than a million passengers ride the buses in La Crosse every year.
