Bundled Up Nutterbutter Penguins
What you'll need:
. 1 container of Nutterbutter Cookies
. 1 pound milk chocolate candy coating - melted according to
. Tootsie Rolls
. Circus Peanuts
. Large Marshmallows
. Candy Eyes
. Colored Licorice
. Decorating Gel
. Popsicle Sticks - optional
Prepping the candy:
. For the "arms", warm up the Tootsie Rolls in the microwave for a few
seconds. Flatten. Use a small leaf fondant cutter or a knife to cut out the "arms". You should be able to get 4 - 6 "arms" out of each small Tootsie Roll.
. For the "beak" and "feet", cut the Circus Peanut width wise into 6 -
8 pieces. Mold immediately into "feet" shape. They may be a little long so take a little bit off each end and roll into the "beak". The peanuts will dry out quickly so mold them right after cutting.
. For the white "tummy", cut a large marshmallow into 6 circular
pieces. You may need to reshape them a bit after cutting.
To assemble your penguin:
1. Dip your cookie into your melted candy coating. Lay on a nonstick
mat, parchment, or wax paper. While the chocolate is still wet, place on the eyes, the beak, the tummy, the arms, and the feet. Let set.
2. Once your penguin is dry, attach the M&Ms with some candy coating
for the ear muffs and draw on a band with the decorating gel. For a scarf, cut your colored licorice in half lengthwise. Take one half and wrap around your penguin's neck to keep him warm.
3. If you want to put them on popsicle sticks to display them, dip your
stick into the melted candy coating and place onto the back of the finished penguin. Let set with the penguin face down.
