Buffalo County Sheriff responded to a mini-van crashing into a tree in Buffalo City on Tuesday night. It happened at 8:34 p.m on South River Road.
According to a press release, when emergency crews arrived, they found 33 year old Tonia Khollman of Fountain City unresponsive with head injuries. She was extricated from the 1999 Town and Country and transported by ambulance to Winona Health with critical injuries.
The sheriff's preliminary investigation shows that Khollman was traveling north on the wrong side of the road. While driving on a curve, the vehicle went onto a snow covered shoulder.
The Sheriff says Khollman overcorrected while going too fast for road conditions and had inadequate front tires. That caused the vehicle to turn sideways, slide across the road, and into a tree in a neighboring yard.
The sheriff believes alcohol is a major contributing factor in the crash. Khollman was not wearing a seatbelt.
