A partnership between The Hunger Task force and UnitedHealthCare is putting food on the table for area families, starting with the most important meal of the day.
They'll be handing out breakfast groceries in Crawford, La Crosse, Trempealeau, Monroe, and Vernon County until May 23.
Volunteers were at the Hunger Task Force in La Crosse Tuesday, handing out groceries. There is enough food in the bags for a family of four to eat breakfast for at least a week. It's not just volunteers taking part in the effort, a favorite childhood character is also helping out.
"We also have Elmo, and we have a national partnership with Sesame Street, and so we bring Elmo in, and one of their main learning targets is about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that's also where breakfast comes in," said UnitedHealthCare Community Specialist, Renee Ladewig-Lathrop.
The five day effort also provides free health care screenings, including screenings for your blood pressure and body mass index.
