JACKSON COUNTY, WI -

A 4-year-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries Friday morning after she was shot in the head by her 6-year-old brother.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened at 9:30 a.m. in the Town of Alma.

Authorities say a 6-year-old boy found a loaded shotgun at his home, pointed it at his 4-year-old sister and it discharged. The shot struck the girl in the right side of the head. The girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, the sheriff’s office said it has not been determined how the shotgun discharged. The children did not have direct supervision, but their father was at the residence when the incident occurred, authorizes said.

The father transported his daughter to the Black River Falls Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was treated and then transported to another hospital in La Crosse for additional treatment.

The incident remains under investigation. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible criminal charges.
