An annual golf tournament is raising money for area education while honoring someone who dedicated his life to helping others.
The second annual Charlie Miller Memorial Bowtie Classic Golf Outing is August at Forest Hills Golf Club in La Crosse.
Miller was a retired surgeon as well as a big supporter of education. Because of this all proceeds from the event will benefit the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
“Like they say in golf, Charlie never took his eye off the ball and the ball quite frankly was the children that he served. To him compromising high quality education was just not in the deck,” said former La Crosse Superintendent Richard Swantz.
Dr. Miller's wife says the tournament is a great way to keep his memory alive in the community.
"Teachers go into education because they love kids they have good ideas that they think would help to learn. Charles was a life time learner. I mean he was always reading he was always thinking how important. and it enriched his life and mine too,” said Susan Miller, wife of the late Charles Miller III.
The Bowtie Classic tees off August 30th. Teams of four will represent an area public school of their choice. The winning team's school will be awarded one thousand dollars.
