LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The La Crosse County Medical Examiner ruled the death of Lynn Frank Johnannes as an accidential drowning.

La Crosse police reports state Lynn Frank James left his La Crescent home on June 8 around 8:30 a.m. to go fishing.

Around 11 a.m., people passing by noticed a boat anchored about 15-20 feet away from the shore in the Bluff Slough, located off of Swift Creek near Green Island Park in La Crosse. They thought someone was sleeping in it, the police report states.

Later, a boater passed by and noticed no one was in the boat. Emergency crews were called to the scene.

The La Crosse County Dive and Rescue Team was able to locate Johannes' body. On Saturday, La Crosse police confirmed it was the body of a 61-year-old man. On Monday, police confirmed the man's identity.

Johannes' son told police his dad usually goes fishing alone and usually does not wear a life jacket, but keeps them in his boat to follow boating regulations.
