The La Crosse Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps will host DCI La Crosse, an event featuring World, Open and All-Age Class corps on Saturday, July 12 at the Vererans Memorial Field Sports Complex at UW-La Crosse.
The event is the first of four major regional competitions Drum Corps International (DCI) holds each summer. The show was originally held in TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, but scheduling conflicts brought it to La Crosse. (The show replaces the annual River City Rhapsody.)
“This show is a very big win for the Blue Stars and the City of La Crosse,” said Blue Stars Executive Director Brad Furlano. “We anticipate an audience of more than 4,000; more than 1,800 performers; and another 700 staff, volunteers and support personnel.”

The DCI La Crosse event will be held on Saturday, July 12 at Veterans Memorial Feild Sports Complex at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Tickets went on sale Monday for DCI La Crosse and are available through DCI’s website. A specific start time for the event has not been set yet, but Furlano said it will begin in the afternoon.
The Blue Stars will be asking for volunteers to help them with this special show. They'll put information and a sign up sheet on their website, bluestars.org soon.
As part of the event, the Blue Stars will be performing their 2014 show, "Where the Heart Is."
"It's a celebration of home and the feelings of togetherness and belonging," Furlano said. "We think it'll be a terrific heart-tugging show for the fans and for our members to perform."
The Blue Stars 50th Anniversary Alumni Corps will also perform as part of the event. Furlano said their show will draw from tunes and songs throughout the Blue Stars' 50-year history.
