LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Wisconsin is joining a national effort to prevent large truck crashes.

The state patrol is stepping up its brake inspection efforts this week to identify faulty systems on large trucks and other commercial vehicles.

The goal is to teach everyone involved in the transportation of commercial goods the importance of proper maintenance.

Programs like this are significantly cutting down on semi crashes and saving more lives.

"Crashes involving commercial motor vehicles have reduced by 26% and crashes with a fatality involving a commercial motor vehicle have been reduced by 30% in the last ten years."

Brake Safety week officially ends Saturday
