BANGOR, Wis. (WKBT) -

Local musical acts bring community members together for a good cause Sunday.

It's the goal of the Bangor Hootenanny, an event that brings in local entertainers to help raise money for charity.

Although the event was free, all proceeds from concessions are donated. It's a tradition that's held every Sunday on Memorial day weekend for the past 29 years.

"Musicians traditionally play Fridays and Saturday nights and so forth," said John McCue, who started Hottenanny in 1986, "Sunday afternoons usually they'd get together and jam, you know and work out new songs and try new things and stuff, that's where, that was kind of how it started."

This year proceeds will go to Sunshine on the Trail, a charity walk for cancer survivors.
