LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

La Crosse police arrested the suspect of an armed robbery that happened at the Clark Station Thursday afternoon.

Police arrested Anthony TJ Smith, 19, of La Crosse, early Friday morning after receiving several tips from the community.

Smith admitted to police he was responsible for the armed robbery. He faces a charge of robbery.

A La Crosse County judge set a $2,500 cash bond for Smith on Friday afternoon. He is scheduled to be back in court on Tuesday.

La Crosse police want to thank the community for their help identifying the suspect. They received several tips through the Crime Stoppers Program and from citizens contacting the police department.

La Crosse police are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect of an armed robbery at the Clark Station on Rose Street. 

The male suspect entered the store and came up to purchase an item at about 2:52 p.m. He then came towards the clerk, pushed him away from the cash register, grabbed money that was out behind the counter and then ran away, La Crosse police said. 

Witnesses told police they saw the suspect throw an item under a dumpster and run away. Officers recovered a weapon at the scene. 

The clerk/owner was not injured and was the only person in the store besides the suspect at the time of the incident, police said. 

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5’7” and thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black stocking cap, sunglasses, dark colored pants and black shoes with white stripes.
