October is International Walk to School month and some local organizations teamed up Tuesday to get kids to school safely.
Despite the rain, families were able to meet up and make the walks together Wednesday morning.
13 schools in La Crosse took part along with Mayor Tim Kabat.
"Walk to School" day started as a way to make communities more 'walkable' for kids.
That includes repairing sidewalks and ramps to make routes to school more accessible for everyone.
"The focus of our program is really to try and build sidewalks around schools and around other places where people are trying to, you know, they might be using a bike or might be walking or whatever or wheelchair, so, we've got a lot of work to do, we've made a lot of progress but we've got a lot of work to do," said Mayor Kabat.
Each school that participated had representatives talk about pedestrian safety with parents and students during the walk.
