A special event is highlighting the hard work of police officers to make our community a safer place.
It's part of the 14th annual police appreciation picnic at Copeland Park on La Crosse's north side Thursday.
The picnic put on by the La Crosse Area Law Enforcement Chaplaincy is a way to say "thank you" to all law enforcement in La Crosse County. Organizers say it's a great reminder what our community would be without police officers.
“We live in a community where we can walk through a park day or night, we can send out kids to school, we can worship, we can shop, we can go to work without any fear. And we do that because we have the safety and security that we enjoy and a great part of that is the people that serve in law enforcement,” said La Crosse Area Law Enforcement Chaplain Mark Clements.
La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat proclaimed today Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
