The American Queen made its first of eight scheduled shore stops in La Crosse on Thursday afternoon.
The steamboat arrived in Riverside Park around 12 p.m. Tours of the steamboat was not allowed but people could view the boat from Riverside Park.
"It brings a new ambiance, a nice feel, people enjoy it, you know, it creates a little buzz, a little action around town, and I think that's always a good thing,” said La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Dave Clements.
The Queen of the Mississippi was also scheduled to visit La Crosse on Thursday, but it was rescheduled for Friday and then canceled late Friday morning.
The La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said the reason the steamboat had to cancel its stop in La Crosse is because the Coast Guard would not let them pass Lock & Dam #10 at Guttenberg, Iowa. This was due to the amount of silt buildup in the river. The Queen of the Mississippi will not be docking in La Crosse on Monday, August 11, as previously scheduled. Its next scheduled shore stop in La Crosse is on October 2 at 11 a.m.
The American Queen is scheduled to return to La Crosse for a visit on Monday, August 11 and will be docked from about 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
