Woman wanted in Amber Alert arrested in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Officials say a woman whose 3-year-old son was the subject of an Amber Alert has been arrested in Des Moines.
Twenty-two-year-old Melanie Stout was wanted for violating a custodial order and escaping from a correctional facility in Des Moines.
Fred Scaletta of the Iowa Department of Corrections say Stout was taken into custody on Monday. She's being held in the Polk County jail. Her case is not listed on the online court system, and it's unclear if she has an attorney.
The Amber Alert was issued early last Thursday after Stout's son, Nicolas Jimmerson, was not returned to his custodial guardian. The alert was canceled several hours later after the boy was found.
Stout is the boy's biological mother, but doesn't have legal custody.
