Woman seriously injured in Jackson County crash involving buggy

An 18 year old woman was airlifted to a hospital after a crash involving a buggy near Fairchild, Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says it happened Sunday on U.S. Highway 10, near County Highway M in Jackson County.

Officials say 18 year old Chantel Formeister of Eau Claire was in a vehicle traveling east on Highway 10, when a horse and buggy entered the highway from a private driveway.  Formeister couldn't avoiding hitting the buggy.

Eighteen year old Lydia Borntreger of Fairchild was a passenger in the buggy.  She suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, and was airlifted from the scene.

Twenty year old Edward Borntreger was driving the buggy, and wasn't injured.

Formeister and a passenger in her vehicle were not hurt.

The crash is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
