WisCorps receives $25,000 grant to replace ash trees
The Wisconsin Conservation Corps (WisCorps) has received a $25,000 grant through the Wisconsin DNR Urban Forestry Program to replace ash trees taken down in the City of La Crosse.
The city has removed hundreds of ash trees on Barron Island, Forest Hills Golf Course, and Myrick Park to combat the emerald ash borer.
WisCorps Executive Director Matthew Brantner says as part of the grant, the City of La Crosse will buy all the trees and WisCorps will plant them through its conservation crew program at no additional cost to the city. The spring, WisCorps Forestry Crew will begin planting about 200-300 new trees of various species where ash trees were removed.
Brantner says the overall goal is to get more public and private funding to be able to replace all of the ash trees lost to the emerald ash borer.
