The state Department of Natural Resources has hired 18 new conservation wardens.
The incoming wardens include veterans, an exercise physiologist, a lawyer, an Eagle Scout and others who have experience in conservation work.
The recruits have started their training. DNR Chief Warden Randy Stark says they will go through instructions at the department's Warden Academy at Fort McCoy, followed by specialized training on the field.
The DNR plans another round of hiring in 2014.
