Walker, Barrett campaign before election

Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are making a last push to sway voters before Tuesday's recall election.

Walker was starting his day at a plastics plant in a Madison suburb before campaigning in West Salem, Eau Claire, Stevens Point and Green Bay. He planned to wrap up his day with a rally in Milwaukee.

Barrett was spending most of his day in western and northern Wisconsin.

His day began with a planned stop at a coffee shop in La Crosse before going to River Falls, Rhinelander and Portage before finishing with a rally at a United Auto Workers union hall in Kenosha.

Walker said on Monday that he's not worried about a recount.

Walker told reporters during a tour of a plastics plant in Fitchburg Monday morning he expects things will be close but he's not thinking about a recount. He said he's focused on telling voters the union restrictions helped balance the state budget.

Walker faces Barrett in a contest spurred by Walker's contentious plan to strip most public workers of nearly all their union rights. Walker is only the third U.S. governor to face a recall.

Walker planned a number of other campaign stops across the state Monday. Barrett planned to spend his day in western and northern Wisconsin.

Polls show a tight race as Walker tries to become the first governor in U.S. history to survive a recall vote.
