October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
and a local organization is working to raise awareness
for the issue in our area.
New Horizons organized a 'Walk to End Abuse' today
marching from Cameron Park to City Hall in La Crosse.
The executive director at New Horizons says abuse
is a growing problem in Wisconsin .
and in our area.
Every year .
they provide services to about 2-thousand women and
children affected by domestic abuse.
They hope events like today's walk helps more people
speak up when they see the warning signs of abuse.
If we're seeing it happen, if we're thinking that
it's happening to somebody that we know, a coworker,
a neighbor a family memeber, that we need to say to
that person, I'm concerned for your safety, and there
are places that can help you.
New Horizons says they get about 28-hundred calls
to their crisis line every year.
If you're in an emergency situation .
you can call that line at 8-8-8 .
