A close call on a highway in Hudson, Wisconsin has police reminding drivers of the state's move-over law.

A video from the Hudson Police Department shows a police officer's cruiser stopped on the side of the road for a traffic stop when another driver slams into the back of the vehicle. Luckily, the officer was not injured in the crash.

The La Crosse Police Department wants to remind drivers to move over if they see a stopped emergency vehicle to avoid situations like this. Officers say it's a matter of safety for everyone.

"Seeing that video is the biggest example, so people don't get harmed. It's not just the police officers, it's other drivers, it's the driver that even actually crashed into the squad car as well, in addition to any officer that person that the squad car does conduct the traffic stop on. So we just want to make sure that everyone is safe,” said La Crosse Police Department Community Resources Officer Brooke Pataska.

Officers say if you do not move over when you're able to you could be fined as much as $260. Minnesota has a similar law.
