An effort to re-brand a north side La Crosse neighborhood
wraps up a three-day planning process.
The 'Uptowne Summit' closed today with a design showcase
where community members and small business owners
shared the ideas that came out of the summit .
and decided which projects to tackle first.
Organizers say two of the first ideas to be implemented
will be a large 'Uptowne' mural that will be visible
to people coming into town on Rose Street .
and a parklet on Caledonia Street.
The parklet would be part of a new 'Uptowne Plaza'
Giving a community gathering space, you can come get
a cup of coffee, stop at the Maid-Rite and get a sandwich,
a chance to go visit all these great shops and awesome
businesses on the street because you've got a place
to hang out and create community in this spot.
Officials hope to start work on the mural and parklet
as soon as possible.
The city of La Crosse is contributing 5-thousand dollars
to help pay for the projects.
