U-W La Crosse breaks ground today for a new science
The 82- million dollar building will include 35 new
instructional and research laboratories for science
majors at the university.
University officials say the new building is needed
due to a lack of space and deteriorating infrastructure
in Cowley Hall.
the current science building.
Cowley Hall was built in 19-65 and does not have space
for U-W-L's expanding science departments.
When I first started, back in 1988, we had about 200-250
majors in Biology.
Now we have 1,200 majors in Biology.
So the growth has been exponential, and the needs
have also grown.
About 296- million dollars worth of building projects
have been started since 2007.
Another 126- million dollars in projects are scheduled
to begin through 20-20.
