LA CROSSE, Wis. -

UW-La Crosse Police say they're very pleased with the results of the first weekend of Oktoberfest.

Preliminary numbers show about 100 underage drinking tickets were handed out, 5 people were taken to the hospital for detox, and 5 people were arrested.

University Police say they were busier this year, but had fewer serious incidents.

They attribute the better behavior to an increased police presence, and new rules that prohibited any out-of-town guests from staying in the campus residence halls. "When we look back at last year when there were a lot more issues, they were related to out of town guests being in those residence halls and when you're talking about missing property, missing persons when someone goes unaccounted for, assaults and that type of behavior greatly diminished this year," said UW-L Police Chief Scott Rohde.

Police will have an increased presence on campus for the second weekend of the fest as well.
