Trial in Culver contribution case delayed
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A trial has been postponed for a man accused of illegally donating money to the re-election campaign of then-Gov. Chet Culver.
The Messenger of Fort Dodge says the Des Moines trial of Steve Daniel had been scheduled to begin Monday. He's charged with making a campaign contribution in the name of another and failing to report a campaign contribution.
Polk County Associate District Court Judge William Price delayed the trial start until Feb. 27 and scheduled a Feb. 13 motions hearing.
Prosecutors say Daniel made the donation on behalf of Peninsula Gaming while he headed Webster County Entertainment in its effort to establish the Diamond Jo Fort Dodge casino. Peninsula Gaming would have run the casino if a state license had been awarded.
