APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- Investigators say an employee of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans blames a gambling addiction for stealing $300,000 from the company.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Debra Gear of Appleton fraudulently added claims to insured accounts and had checks drafted to a relative. A criminal complaint says Gear had access to the relative's account and would later transfer that money back to her account.

Gear is charged with three felony counts of theft and is scheduled to appear in Outagamie County Circuit Court next week.

The Post-Crescent says the thefts took place from July 2009 to May 2011.
