Team Vogel vs Cancer set to raise money for research, local families
WINONA, Minn. -- Even though he's no longer with us, a Winona man is still touching the lives of people with cancer.
Joe Vogel lost his battle with colon cancer in 2010 at 32. Joe and his wife Rachel were so touched by the amount of support they received from family, friends and complete strangers, they decided to start a fundraiser called Team Vogel vs Cancer.
Joe was able to see the first event before he died. Team Vogel has been busy getting everything ready for the third annual fundraiser Saturday.
"It's our way to keep Joe's dream alive," Rachel says. "It started out as his dream, and it's now his legacy, and I see it as the community's way to pay it forward."
The Team Vogel vs. Cancer fundraiser will be held Saturday at Winona's Lake Park Jaycees Pavilion.
Rachel says the group is hoping to raise $50,000, which will go to 10 Winona-area families dealing with cancer, along with Mayo Clinic Health System and Gundersen Lutheran to support cancer patients and research.
