A few gray clouds didn't stop La Crosse from turning pink Saturday morning.
The 11th annual Steppin' Out In Pink took place on the Gundersen campus.
The event raises money for area breast cancer research.
Organizers say the event used to be known just as a walk but has grown into a full event with speakers and entertainment.
The event brings in people from around the country to celebrate the lives of family members dealing with cancer.
"We get people from about 22 different states that come to this walk -322 different zip codes- so they are coming from all over. They're coming here, they're spending money in our community and they're helping us raise money for local breast cancer research," Debbie Kroner, Gundersen's associate director of special events, said.
The day kicked off with a survivor breakfast featuring 250 area survivors.
More than 6,000 people participated in Saturday's event.
