A new program for at-risk youth is coming to our area.
News 8's Sarah Thamer shows us how these kids are
being helped out of their troubled pasts into what
are hopefully productive lives as young adults.
The Transition Program
The program is offering recently graduated cadets
from the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy
an opportunity to transition out of the academy and
into the workforce.
The goal is to help at-risk youth find success in
the Sparta area.
The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce has more than
just the business community on its mind.
Creating a foundation for a program that would allow
graduating cadets from the challenge academy, live,
work and volunteer locally.
Over the last year the organization has been working
to start The Transition Program.
It's a program targeted at at-risk youth with big

The Transition Program is starting with youth in the
Wisconsin Challenge Academy--who typically attend

and then put an action plan together of how they're
gonna get there.
And Greenwood says those goals will be easier to meet,
when the opportunity is already there.
Part of The Transition Program is to offer our cadets
the opportunity or an option for when they graduate
from the program.
The Transition Program will offcially begin June of
2017 and plans to start with six graduated cadets.
The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce invested two-thousand
dollars to help start the program.
And youth will be able to stay in the program for
up to 18 months.
