DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- Some Dyersville residents want the City Council to forgo support of the proposed baseball and softball project that would be built at the "Field of Dreams" movie site.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that about a dozen people spoke up at the council meeting Monday night, asking the council to help them protect the city and nearby farms. Others spoke in favor of the project.

Wayne Ameskamp implored the council to keep project from ruining "our piece of heaven."

The council took no action.

Iowa lawmakers are considering legislation that would provide tax incentives for the project, which backers say would create hundreds of jobs.

The expanded site would have 24 fields, an indoor training center and would mainly operate during the summer.
