Smoke alarm alerts Waterloo family to fire
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- Firefighters have put out the last flames of a house fire that was held in check by a Waterloo family.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports a smoke alarm went off at the house a little before 4 a.m. Wednesday, awakening the residents.
Waterloo Fire Department Capt. Dave Haugen says the residents noticed flames in their living room and put out most of them with an extinguisher. Haugen says a small fire was still burning when firefighters arrived.
A resident was taken to Allen Hospital for possible treatment.
Haugen says the fire cause is being investigated.
