A chemical spill at a downtown La Crosse engineering
lab causes an evacuation of the building.
About a gallon of ammonium hydroxide was spilled at
Davy Engineering on sixth street south this afternoon.
Ammonium hydoxide is about 20 times stronger than
regular ammonia .
and the La Crosse Fire Department says the spill created
a toxic environment in the lab.
Employees were evacuated and streets were blocked
off while emergency crews cleaned up the spill.
They were allowed back into the building at about
3 this afternoon.
