Sioux City officials say man left horse at school
Sioux City officials have cited a man for leaving his horse tied to a tree at an elementary school.
Levi Wielenga says he was riding his horse named Midnight Lady until early Tuesday morning and realized it was too late to bring her back to her pasture about 20 miles away. So he tied the 13-year-old horse to a tree near Unity Elementary School with a long rope and planned to get her in the morning.
Sioux City Animal Control officers say they found the horse in the same spot hours later in good condition. They say the animal had access to food but no water.
The Sioux City Journal reports Wielenga was cited for tethering and simple neglect. He paid $370 in fees for the civil infractions.
