After three attempts in three years.
voters in the West Salem School District approved
two school referendums yesterday.
totaling 25-million dollars.
The district can now move forward with renovations
and additions to the middle and elementary schools.
Funds will also be used to make changes to the bus
transfer area and build a new multi-purpose sports
and events facility.
We had over 1,000 people fill out a suvey about a
year ago to tell us what we should do.
Congratualtions to my school board for taking that
data and mixing it together.
Congratualtion to them for compromising, because the
solution they came up with was sort of in the middle.
Everybody gave a litlle bit and got a little bit.
The superintendent says he hopes to get school renovation
plans to contractors for bidding by February or March.
The goal is to have students and staff move into renovated
buildings by the Fall of 20-18.
and possibly start using some of the new outdoor sports
facilities by next fall.
The Melrose- Mindoro School District will also see
a funding increase of about 25-million dollars.
In a statement released today.
school officials said quote...
'We would like to thank the residents for a great
voter turnout and thank our school board for their
vision and commitment to 'keeping kids first.'
Our students and staff will have great facilities
for a many decades.'
