LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Two men accused with the fatal shooting of a La Crosse woman and a drive-by shooting on La Crosse's north side will stand trial.
19-year-old Kong Vue and 21-year-old Pao Choua Vue are both charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the shooting of 20-year-old Sara Hougom on March 26 at her apartment at 721 Division Street.
The men also face charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide in a drive-by shooting on Island Street just minutes before the Division Street shooting.
The La Crosse Police officer who first responded to Hougom's apartment described Hougom's 911 received by the La Crosse County Dispatch Center.
"Dispatch had received a 911 call that they described as sounding like female moaning or crying in the background, but no verbalization," Officer Dan Ulrich told the court Wednesday.
Dispatchers used phone records to track down Hougom's address. Once Ulrich found Hougom injured in the apartment, he called for an ambulance.
Hougom died a short time later at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
Kong Vue told investigators he went into Hougom's apartment to steal money and shot in Hougom's direction before running away.
Kong Vue and Pao Choua Vue are scheduled to appear in court again May 21.
